Movie Lesson: The *Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

5B ^embarked on a learning journey through watching an interesting fantasy movie: The *Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as our post-SA2 activity.

The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven fantasy novels for children by C. S. Lewis.

The story was about four British children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who were #evacuated during a war to the countryside. They found a wardrobe that led them to the fantasy world of Narnia. They learnt about bravery and friendship. They allied with the King of Narnia - the Lion Aslan against the evil forces of the White Witch.

Here are the post-movie discussion questions:
1) State adjectives to describe each of the children character in the story. (Eg. the loyal Lucy, the greedy Edmund etc)

2) Which is your favourite part of the story? Why?

3) If you can choose to be one of the talking animals, who would it be? Why?

Enjoy the show and have fun learning.
I hope some of you would pick out the Chronicles of Narnia novel from the bookstore or library to read during the school holidays.

Vocabulary Corner:
* chronicle: history / record / narrative / story
^ embarked on: to begin / to take up / to engage
# evacuated: to move out / to vacate / to leave

June Holiday Reading: Book Review

Dear boys and girls!
Holidays are here again!
It's time to relax, have fun and do some revision.

I love school holidays as there will be more time to read, read and read my favourite books!
I certainly hope that you will develop good reading habit which can be a lifelong hobby :)

Let's read at least 2 books this holidays and choose at least 1 book for the book review assignment.
The book review format is as follows:
1) Title of book
2) Author of book
3) Favourite character(s) and why
4) Favourite part(s) of the story and why

Here is an example:
1) Rachel's Holiday
2) Marian Keyes
3) Josephine - the group support therapist. She is a very firm and determined person who knows the right moment to ask the right questions.
4) My favorite part of the story was when Rachel's parents visited her at a therapy session. When her parents explained what really had happened years ago which caused her mother to be depressed, Rachel had a revelation and realized that she was not to be blamed, and at that instant, all of Rachel's tensed muscles started to relax and all the years of guilt and pain was gone at that moment. I have learnt how important it is to be open to one's family and friends to clarify doubts and concerns, and that sometimes things are not like what they seem to be based solely on one's perspective.

Have fun reading and enjoy your holidays!
Remember to plan time for holiday written assignments (Math Revision Papers, Science Online Practices etc) and revision on your weak topics. Take care and see all of you next term!

Rainbow Day 1: Never Say Never!!!

Well done, boys and girls!

Congratulations!
All of you have performanced wonderfully during Rainbow Day 1!
It was amazing!
Your smiles and your confidence had brought on a mighty cheer in the audience!
I'm so proud of all of you!

Thank you Mr Chia for your encouraging words about our performance:
"The last item by P5B was great!
Usually by the time we come to the last item, the children are very fidgety and restless, and it can be quite difficult to engage them.
However, as P5B class performed, the audience was attentive.
Everyone watched.
The class performed well, and what I liked especially was the confidence I saw in the P5B pupils. This is what Rainbow Day is all about."

Whole Numbers

Hi boys and girls!
Do you know how big is 1 million?
What is bigger than a million?
Let's watch the following video to find out!

Post-video discussion:
1) We started with 1 unit.
2) 10 times of 1 unit = 1 ten-unit block
3) 10 times of a ten-unit block = 1 hundred-unit block
4) 10 times of a hundred-unit block = 1 thousands-unit block
5) Continue with this trend of thinking until you reach 1 million.
6) Are you amazed at how huge a million is?

Never Say Never!

Never Say Never

See I never thought that I could walk through fire.
I never thought that I could take the burn.
I never had the strength to take it higher.
Until I reached the point of no return.
And there's just no turning back.
When your hearts under attack.
Gonna give everything I have.
It's my destiny.

Chorus:

I will never say never! (I will fight)
I will fight till forever! (make it right)
Whenever you knock me down.
I will not stay on the ground.
Pick it up,Pick it up,Pick it up.
Pick it up up up.
And never say never.

I never thought I could feel this power.
I never thought that I could feel this free.
I'm strong enough to climb the highest tower.
And I'm fast enough to run across the sea.
And there's just no turning back.
When your hearts under attack.
Gonna give everything I have.
Cause this is my destiny.

(repeat chorus)

Rap:
Here we go!
Guess who?
JSmith and Jb!
I gotcha lil bro.
I can handle him.
Hold up, alright?
I can handle him.
Now he's bigger than me.
Taller than me.
And he's older than me.
And stronger than me.
And his arms a little bit longer than me.
But he ain't on a JB song with me!
I be trying to chill.
They be trying to side with a thrill.
No pun intended, was raised by the power of Will.
Like Luke with the force, when push comes to shove.
Like Kobe in the 4th, ice water for blood. (let's go)
Try to be the best, and yes we're the flyest.
Like David and Goliath,I conquered the giant.
So now I got the world in my hand,.
was born from two stars.
So the moon's where I land.
I'm gone.

(repeat chorus 2 times)

Here's another youtube video (with lyrics)

I found this video on children's hip hop dance - maybe we can get some ideas for our class dance!
